The standard formula used by all Indian banks and NBFCs for EMI calculation is:
Monthly EMI: The fixed amount you pay every month for the entire loan tenure. It stays the same throughout (for fixed-rate loans).
Total Payment: EMI × Number of months. This is the total amount you repay to the bank, including principal and interest.
Total Interest: Total Payment - Loan Amount. This is the extra cost of borrowing money from the bank.
Payment Schedule: The month-by-month grid below shows exactly how your repayment is split between principal and interest each month. In early months, a larger portion goes towards interest; as the loan matures, more goes towards principal.
Make a larger down payment to reduce the principal. Compare interest rates across banks - even a 0.5% difference can save ₹5-10 lakhs over a 20-year home loan.
