How Exact Age is Calculated
Unlike a simple division of total days by 365, exact age requires accounting for varying month lengths (28–31 days) and leap years. The correct method is to subtract the birth date from today's date component by component - first full years, then remaining full months, then remaining days.
Step 1 - Count full years:
years = today.year - dob.year
If today's month/day is before dob's month/day → years-1
Step 2 - Count remaining months:
months = today.month - dob.month (adjusted)
If today's day < dob's day → months-1
Step 3 - Count remaining days:
days = today.day - dob.day
If negative → borrow days from previous month
Example: DOB = 15 Aug 1995, Today = 12 Mar 2025
Years = 29 (2025-1995-1, because Mar 12 < Aug 15)
Months = 6 (Mar - Sep = 6, since Aug → Sep = 1 mo)
Days = 25 (12 - 15 → borrow Feb's days)
